Open Wisdom / Slow thinking for a fast world

About Open Wisdom

Open Wisdom is a small essay journal written by Dennis Sanjivi and Maria Zueva. We publish one considered piece a week on ideas, technology, relationships and culture.

The name is a statement of intent. Open, because the best thinking happens in the open: argued with, revised, shared. Wisdom, because information is now abundant and judgement is not. We are less interested in being first than in being worth rereading.

What we write about

  • Philosophy & Ideas: how to think, what to value, and what we owe one another.
  • Technology & Society: what our tools are doing to us, and what we might fairly ask of them.
  • Life & Relationships: love, work, family and the long project of becoming yourself.
  • Culture & Perspectives: books, history, and the view from somewhere else.

How we write

Every essay starts from a real question, makes an argument, and takes the best objection seriously. We end with questions rather than conclusions, because the point is for you to keep thinking after you close the tab.

We come at things from different directions. Dennis has spent his career in technology; Maria comes from a life in literature. Sometimes we agree. The essays are better when we don’t.

Comments are open on every essay and we read all of them. Disagreement is welcome; contempt isn’t. A new essay appears every Tuesday morning, and you can follow along by RSS.
